Although Longmont started out as a rich agricultural community, after the government built an air-traffic control, IBM built a large factory, companies like Seagate, Amgen and GE joined the area, agriculture waned and more high tech companies became home to Longmont. Longmont was named after Long's Peak which is clearly visible from the town. Longmont is full of open acres and parks, perfect for the outdoor enthusiast.
